This is an unframed, limited edition collection landscape photography print of only 25 units. It is printed on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl papers, structured to refract the highest values in colour and detail. It’s high-quality ink absorbing layer enables exceptional image quality with enormously detailed sharpness, and a very broad colour range, providing archival permanency of your artwork for over 100 years.

CAPTURE DETAILS

On tripod, Canon 5DMk2, 200mm, F5.6, 1/800th sec, ISO 50, no filter, processed in Lightroom.

This was one of the more ethereal experiences of my life. Standing on the edge of Haleakala volcano crater, the sun rises above the clouds. At just over 10,000 feet, the air is thin, the weather is cold and the photographs are exceptionally hard to capture. Looking straight into a rising sun, you face extreme over exposure of your image. I fought with settings to get this image and really had to underexpose the image to see any detail. Im glad I did, as the rivers of lava can be easily seen.

PHOTO TIP

Extreme differences in exposure can play havoc with your camera. Finding a setting o capture it right can be a nightmare. Start with a general auto setting and take note of what the camera gives you. That’s your starting point, adjust incrementally each of your shutter settings until you find the best average to provide detail in both your highlights and your shadows. Unfortunately though, sometimes, you just can’t get around editing afterwards.
