This image depicts line and shape in so many ways. Captured on the road into Wanaka, I stopped to stretch my legs and look over the hills, when I noticed these tall trees in front of several contoured hills, capped in snow. I thought this would make a great framed image, so I zoomed into catch the right amount of the scene in a tightly cropped frame.

PHOTO TIP

Landscape photography can be a deceiving style of photography. The word landscape almost implies you have to capture the whole landscape. You have to fit it all in, but that’s not true. You don’t have to use a wide angle every time. In fact using a zoom lens in the landscape format can really help to train your eye on composition. Plus you’ll quite often crop out the unnecessary stuff you don’t need in your image. Try zooming in next time, see what you find.
