Portland is a city that is jammed with culture, street side vendors and good old fashioned American stuff. I picked up lunch from this little place, and had a good long chat to the owner. I asked about the mixed message on the side and he just laughed and said “give the people what they want huh”. Then he asked me photograph his “place”. I was happy to do so, with a story like that.

Get to know the locals when you are out capturing photographs. Their stories are often entertaining and will most likely lead you to discovering some awesome new places to photograph. It doesn’t hurt to ask if you can capture a portrait of them in their environment. Being able to tell their story through you lens can be very powerful.
