I love fire stations. This one is located in one the most picturesque places a station could be. I thought the symmetrical architecture of the stations building lent itself to structure, organisation and process. Exactly what firefighters have to do. I spent some great time looking over this firehouse and speaking to the Captain about his team. I learnt a lot about what firefighter endure and how camaraderie keep the team in check with each other, personally and professionally.

Street photography does not always have to include life, if it’s appropriate. In the case of the Station One, I used the lack of life as a way to depict the peace and quiet of a safe city. Under guard but not needing rescuing. This is another way of telling a story about a city. I often tell my students, tell me a story about this city without anyone in it.
