I love this image. Its huge sign seems to stand proudly over the old theatre. You can see this for the full length of the street. Open since 1928, the Paramount Theatre, locally named the “Schnitz” has seen the like of Louis Armstrong in the fifties, through to Madonna in the eighties. The inside is magnificent and grand, but its the old facade, restored in 1972 that keeps the city of Portland coming back.

PHOTO TIP

Ok, I know I’ve said it before on this site, but photograph old stuff. Especially old buildings. You never know when some town planner or developer will knock it down. When you compose your image, keep the facade in perspective to the street its on. This helps to locate the building in it’s surrounds. Try to include some kind of movement in the image, like people entering or leaving, to show the building still has some life to it.
