This image was captured the day after a blind busker was in the exact same spot. The Chinese man sat peacefully playing an ancient Chinese instrument, called an Ehru. It’s violin like tones were perfect for the setting and the day. Rain, tourists, market goers and music. I really get a sense of place from this image. Something classically Seattle.

PHOTO TIP
Photographing people in street portraits takes careful consideration to make them stand out. Composition needs to be strong and bold, and if shoooting black and white, your understanding of shadow and light needs to be strong too. Study old black and white photographers like Rex Dupain, and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Icons of their time, they depict life and will inspire your vision as well.
