The best way to describe this image is the view I remember as a child. I grew up in Sydney and visited theme parks many times. I wanted to revisit my view of all the “big things” in the fun park from a child’s perspective. The ferris wheel always looked so high up. So much higher than the flag poles. I love the way the flags flutter in the wind and the ferris wheel towers into the bright sky. Fond memories.

PHOTO TIP

Black and white photography need not always contain complex things. A big open sky and a single object can create interest and curiosity when the subject seems to float into the clouds and sky. Look for ways to tell a story with your image connecting the subject to the environment or surrounds. Quite often there will be a lot of sunlight, so be careful shooting directly into the sun, if it’s overhead. Freeze the scene with a fast shutter speed.
