This image was one I had sought for many years. Funnily enough on this shoot I ended up with a few of this type of dune image, but this one catches my eye for it’s imperfection and lines. It was a hell of a climb to get to this spot on a day that threatened to rain throughout. In the subdued light the dune took on a duller and more serious tone of colour about it. I changed my camera settings to increase the contrast and make sure that shadow was a dominant feature of the image.

Not all your images need to be perfectly composed, have perfect balance of colour, or weight in the subject. Nor do they need to conform to the rule of thirds. Sometimes a straight line can have a bend in it, or a break. It is where you position that “change” in perfection that will ultimately determine the strength of your photograph. It’s how you make that imperfection noticeable.
