I love old historical buildings and things that take on an abstract appeal. This window immediately caught my eye with it’s vibrant blue frame. I love the opposing elements of the soft garden around the hard frame of the house. The view through the window says it all for me.

PHOTO TIP

Still life doesn’t always have to be indoors, on a table, with a basket of fruit etc. This is an example of outdoor still life and I love it. The lighting is soft and even and the textures are mixed. I implore you to do this around your home. Start with something similar, looking in a window, not creepy like, but done right, you can create some great images. Now I can hear you asking…what about the refections through the glass Steve? Easy, use a polarizing filter to cut the reflections out, and turn the lights on inside the window.
