Two things say America to me, the flag and the Statue of Liberty. This is not the New York version, but rather the Las Vegas one. Situated outside the New York New York hotel. I had plenty of images of the lady herself on Liberty Island in New York, but I liked the way the American flag fluttered beside her. I deliberately did this to create a sense of the flag protecting the lady from overhead.

PHOTO TIP

When you use one subject to frame another subject, place leading edge lines directly into corners or something that gives the image symmetry. Connect the two subject somehow, by having one lead to the other. It may be their colours, it may be their size or scale or it may be how your position yourself when you capture the image.  The most important element to remember is to demonstrate connection.
