This is my favourite image of Seattle. Captured in the heart of Pike Place Markets, I watch a blind man play the most beautiful guitar solos as literally no-one stopped. You can see that there is traffic all around him, and no-one stopped to enjoy his skillset. After he finished playing I walked up and thanked him and chatted briefly. His photo has been etched in my memory of Seattle for a long time.

PHOTO TIP

Connecting with the people of a place is highly important if you want to capture the feeling and the personality of a city. If you have the time ask questions, get to know the personality of the man behind the bar, the local firefighters, or the hotel bellhop. You’ll be surprised what local secrets you find out, that you can then capture in camera.
