CAPTURE DETAILS

On tripod, Canon 5DMk2, 12mm, F14, 1/4 sec, ISO 50, no filter, processed in Lightroom.

I’d anticipated going to this waterfall in Vanuatu for months, and when I had the chance, so did two hundred other tourists. Talk about frustrating. It was almost a sprint into the park to get to the falls prior to the tour buses puling up. It was 8am in the morning, and I had around 15 minutes to get to the falls get some images and pack up before the rousts descended on me. I did my research and knew the view I wanted, so within a very short window, I was able to capture this waterfall in its own solitude. In a way it reminds me of milk running down the hillside.

PHOTO TIP

Heavily populated tourist areas can present a challenge for landscape photographers. Your gear is at most risk, as people don’t watch where they are walking, and really have little regard for your bag and your equipment. In these circumstances, travel as light as possible. Only trek in with what you need, and make sure your tripod is immediately collapsible, so you can pack up in a moments notice. These falls had mini falls running  everywhere, and you literally had to wade through streams to get to it. you can imagine the amount of kids slipping down the falls and people splashing around that could make this a nightmare.
